After a gap of 19 years, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) granted Pakistan the opportunity to host the eight-nation qualifying competition for the 2024 Olympics, scheduled from January 13 to 21.
The Sindh governor shared his thoughts during a meeting with Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary General Haider Hussain on a Thursday.

Tesori Desire to Karachi host Olympics hockey qualifiers
Tesori expressed that hosting the Olympic Qualifier event for the Paris Olympics 2024 is a great honor for Pakistan. He urged the PHF to consider holding one or two matches of the Olympic Qualifying round in Karachi.
In the meantime, it was revealed that the PHF would submit the final 18 names of Pakistan’s senior team to the organizing committee of the Asian Games on July 14, which was the deadline for player nominations.
To meet the deadline, the PHF has rescheduled the trials in Lahore to take place two days earlier, on July 15-16, to select the team for the Asian Champions Trophy and Asian Games.
Pakistan is all set to participate in the upcoming Asian Games scheduled from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China.

Haider Hussain expressed their readiness to host an international event after a significant period of time.
“We feel honored to have the hosting rights for an international event,” said Hussain. “After the 1990’s Hockey World Cup, we are once again going to host an international event with the participation of eight teams. I hope the excitement and curiosity among the fans would be as great as it was back then,” he added.
Hussain also believes that the Olympic Qualifiers will pave the way for more international events in the country. In response, the PHF has already begun meticulous planning to ensure the event’s success.
