Tragically, at least seven individuals lost their lives due to the deluge, as confirmed by officials. Commissioner Lahore Mohammad Ali Randhawa revealed that the metropolis experienced a downpour of 291mm, with over a dozen areas reporting rainfall exceeding 200mm. Randhawa attributed this extreme weather event to the effects of climate change and the intensifying monsoon season.

Taking stock of the situation and overseeing relief efforts, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his cabinet visited various parts of the city today to assess the aftermath of the rain and monitor clearance and drainage operations. In a video shared on Twitter, an individual identified as Riaz could be seen driving recklessly through the flooded streets, deliberately splashing rainwater onto passing vehicles and motorcyclists.
Responding to Riaz’s behavior, journalist and anchorperson Raza Zaidi expressed his disapproval on Twitter, stating that foolish individuals tend to misuse their positions. Another netizen labeled Riaz as the “illegal sports minister.” One social media user criticized his reckless driving, commenting, “He is speeding without any regard for others on the road.”
Echoing the sentiments of many, Rayham Wadud expressed strong condemnation of Sports Minister Wahab Riaz’s careless actions, highlighting how he callously drove through waterlogged Lahore roads, drenching passing vehicles and innocent bikers. In the face of such behavior, some netizens called for Riaz’s resignation.
