The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially announced that employees at the federal level will receive a day off in observance of the Islamic New Year.
Holiday for Islamic New Year
According to Khaleej Times, workers in the federal government will enjoy a day off on Friday, July 21, to honor the Hijri New Year.
In contrast to the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic calendar adheres to a lunar-oriented structure that depends on the sighting of the moon.
Consequently, the specific dates of Islamic occasions may differ depending on the observation of the crescent moon.
Per Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the Emirates Astronomy Society (EAS) President, there is a strong probability that the commencement of 1 Muharram will occur on Wednesday, July 19th.
