Tharparkar Desert in Pakistan
Between July and September, when the rainy season occurs, the desert undergoes a remarkable transformation, becoming an exceptionally beautiful place. Visitors, both from the Sindh province and occasionally from other regions, flock to witness this awe-inspiring sight. Following the rainy season, several ponds retain water for approximately three months. Despite the water not being very clean, both people and animals rely on it for drinking purposes. Although it may not be perfect, this water holds immense importance when the availability of water is limited.
The primary source of water for people is wells, which can reach considerable depths of up to 200 feet. During periods of drought or limited rainfall, the water level in the wells decreases even further. Traditionally, it is the women who retrieve water from the wells using ropes. Due to the significant depth of the water, a single woman cannot accomplish this task alone. It requires a collaborative effort of five to six women working together to successfully raise a bucket of water from the well.
