In the aftermath of Chairman Imran Khan’s recent arrest, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has achieved a remarkable victory in the Peshawar local government election, securing the coveted slots for chairman tehsil council Mathra, Havelian, and Abbottabad.
Based on the provisional consolidated result from all 155 polling stations in Mathra, The News reported that Inam Ullah of PTI emerged triumphant with an impressive 20,333 votes. The seat had been vacant following the passing of tehsil chairman Farid Ullah, who was affiliated with JUI-F.

On the other hand, the Maulana Fazl ur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) faced defeat in the mentioned constituencies. Their candidate, Rafiullah, secured 13,564 votes but couldn’t clinch the chairmanship of the tehsil council Mathra, finishing in second place.
Among the other candidates, Iftikhar Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami secured 9,546 votes, Aziz Ghaffar of ANP received 2,721 votes, Ali Abbas of PPP obtained 5,377 votes, and Fazlullah of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) garnered 3,351 votes.
The voter turnout was notable, with 55,607 people casting their votes, resulting in a turnout of 26%.

He wrote: “The best thing about the success in yesterday’s Mathra tehsil election is that Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s candidate Inam is a general worker of the party and trained by [Insaf Students Federation] ISF. The ideology succeeded against those who spend crores.”
