In contrast, its margin over second-ranked Australia has reduced from 11 points to just seven. Australia have climbed above England to second with 257 points, while South Africa’s jump to fourth, just two points behind England, marks another significant change in the rankings.

With 249 points, the sixth-placed West Indies have a slight lead over Pakistan by two points.
The ranking update only considers the performance of the teams since May 2021. While it is noteworthy that India’s 2-1 series victory over Australia under captain Virat Kohli, which ended in January 2021, is outside this period.
India extended its lead over Australia to six rating points. South Africa has narrowed the gap to Australia to four rating points, while Pakistan and New Zealand round out the top five.

Australia’s emphatic 209-run victory over India in last year’s World Test Championship final lifted them to the top spot in the Test rankings, relegating India to second place. South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh maintain their positions in the top nine. England is third.
