BAGHDAD – Over one lac of Muslims have travelled from Pakistan to reach the holy city of Karbala in Iraq to participate in Ashura processions.

1 Lac Pakistani Pilgrims Gather in Karbala-The vast influx of mourners in Iraq from Pakistan and various parts of the globe is in accordance with Ashura – the observance of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, in the Battle of Karbala, which occurred in 680 AD on the 10th day of Muharram.
The Middle Eastern nation’s Pakistan Ambassador, Ahmed Amjad Ali, stated that a dedicated camp office has been established in Karbala to support Pakistani pilgrims.
Ali mentioned that medical personnel are present at the camp office, along with stalls of sabeels for the pilgrims. He also pointed out that passports and documents can be verified at the camp office.
The Ambassador clarified that the objective of the Karbala Camp Office is to cater to the needs of Pakistani pilgrims, established on the special directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flocked to Baghdad to honor the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Each year, mourners walk to Karbala and stay in makeshift camps along the way, as the grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW and his family were outnumbered and martyred after a brief battle against the forces of the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I.
