Following Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore, Multan Airport has now joined as the fourth city in Pakistan to have a working Facial Recognition System (FRS) at its airport. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) spokesperson confirmed this on Friday.
Facial Recognition System is a technology that can compare a person’s face from a picture or video with a collection of faces in a database.
The spokesperson mentioned that the system would greatly assist border agencies at Multan International Airport and help prevent illegal transportation across international borders.
Regarding this matter, officials from the Japan International Cooperation System (JICS) provided training to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Civil Aviation Authority officials at MIAP.

“The collaboration between the Japanese and Pakistani governments to enhance the security system at our airports is an ongoing process,” added the spokesperson.
The Facial Recognition System is commonly used for verifying users’ identities through ID verification services. It works by analyzing and measuring specific facial features from a given image.
This system falls under the category of biometric security. Other types of biometric software include voice recognition, fingerprint recognition, and eye retina or iris recognition.
