Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday forecasted additional monsoon rains in the northern regions of the nation throughout the week.
“The monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are anticipated to advance into the higher regions,” reported the Met Office.
Per the nation’s chief meteorologist, there is a possibility of a westerly wave affecting these regions on August 3 (Thursday).
In Kashmir and its surrounding areas, there will be rain, wind-thundershower – some with isolated heavy falls – from August 2 to 7.
These regions include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, and Bhimber. Additionally, the areas of Mirpur, Gilgit Baltistan’s Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, Murree, and Galyat will also experience similar weather during this period, with occasional gaps in between.
Additionally, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera are anticipated to experience rainfall.

Additionally, there are forecasts of rain and wind-thundershowers in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, and Bhakkar between August 4 and 7, with intermittent periods of dry weather.

Severe downpours could also lead to urban flooding in the lower regions of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore, between August 4 and 7.
Furthermore, these heavy rains might instigate landslides in the susceptible areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the wet spell.
The Prime Minister’s Department (PMD) has additionally released a caution that the gust/thunderstorm could potentially harm unsteady constructions such as utility poles and photovoltaic panels.
“The public is recommended to seek safe shelter during gusty winds, thunderstorms, and torrential rainfall,” it appended.
