Kia is currently developing a durable pickup truck to enter the market and rival popular models such as the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and Ford Ranger. The truck is scheduled for release in 2025 and will feature a brand-new, robust “ladder frame” chassis designed to withstand and transport heavy loads.
During a conference on Friday, Kia informed its Australian dealers that their upcoming truck would be equipped with a diesel engine, providing comparable towing and payload capabilities to the popular Ranger and Hilux models. The truck is expected to have a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons and a loading bed capable of carrying a ton of cargo.

Toyota Hilux newest truck
The newest truck from Kia may feature robust four-cylinder or V6 turbo diesel engines from Hyundai or Kia. Furthermore, Kia has suggested the possibility of introducing an electric variant, which has the potential to make up a significant 25% of the total sales for this durable vehicle.
According to Damien Meredith, the Chief Operating Officer of the brand, Kia is considering the launch of an electric pickup truck in 2025. He mentioned that the truck would have a towing capacity of at least 2.5 tons, be offered in both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive options, and provide the convenience for workers to charge their power tools directly from the truck.
The report suggests that the engine options could be as follows:
- A 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that makes 198 hp and 440 Nm torque
- A 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 engine that sends 246 hp and 560 Nm of torque
While the official details on the truck are yet to be revealed, officials reckon that the car will be priced to compete with Toyota Hilux.
