Japan is close to becoming the 5th country in the world to reach the moon.A Japanese mission launched in September has successfully entered lunar orbit.
According to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the mission to the moon achieved a major milestone on December 25.The mission has successfully entered lunar orbit but will not land yet.
The mission will orbit the moon for about a month and then attempt a landing.The mission, named Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLAM), consists of a small spacecraft and lander weighing 200 kg.
The primary objective of this mission is to demonstrate the capability of pinpoint landing within 100 meters of the selected landing site.The Japanese mission will attempt to land near Shioli, a small crater in the moon’s equatorial region.

This is the first time that a mission has been sent to the moon by the Japanese space agency.Earlier, a private Japanese company had launched a mission to the moon some time ago, but it failed to land.
