UN Chief Advocates for Due Process and Rule of Law
ISLAMABAD – Responding to the detainment of ex-Pakistani premier Imran Khan, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged authorities to uphold proper legal procedures.
UN Chief Advocates for Due Process and Rule of Law-In a declaration, Guterres appealed to Islamabad to maintain due process in the PTI leader’s situation, urging all political factions to refrain from violence.
His representative stated that the respected diplomat acknowledged continuing demonstrations subsequent to the apprehension of former prime minister Imran Khan, underscoring the necessity to honor the entitlement to peaceful assembly.
Previously, Washington demanded regard for democratic principles and the legal framework in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s former PM, recognized for his populist policies, has been arrested in the Toshakhana case during the weekend. The trial court released a warrant for the PTI chairman’s arrest after handing down a three-year imprisonment sentence.

The judge affirmed that corruption allegations against the former premier were substantiated, as the senior statesman presented falsified particulars to the electoral authority.
His apprehension is likely to intensify ongoing political disorder as the opposition condemned politically driven lawsuits against the ex-cricketer turned politician.
