ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja Thursday concurred that the general elections will take place in the country on February 8, 2024.
The development occurred after an ECP delegation led by CEC Raja and Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan met Alvi at the President’s Secretariat to deliberate on the poll date, a statement from Alvi’s office mentioned.

The gathering between the parties was on directives of the Highest Court, which had directed the electoral body to confer with the head of state and notify the Highest Court about the voting day tomorrow (Friday).
The ECP — during today’s Highest Court session regarding petitions advocating for timely polls nationwide — had stated to the highest court that polls were scheduled for February 11, but the Highest Court urged the body to confer with the president.
After reaching an agreement, AGP Awan and CEC Raja will apprise the highest court of the decision.

The court — in the decree issued post the session — had directed the AGP to facilitate the meeting between ECP and Alvi, furnish the president with the court directive, and be ready to provide aid.
“We anticipate that the issue of fixing a date for the general elections will be resolved, and this court will be informed tomorrow (Friday),” the highest court stated in the decree.
