Islamia University Videos Scandal
BAHAWALPUR: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has formed a five-member fact-finding committee on the Islamic University Bahawalpur videos and drugs scandal, News reported on Friday.
Islamia University Videos Scandal-The HEC investigative panel led by Dr. Muhammad Ali, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), will create a probe document.
The members of the committee are Lt. Gen. (R) Moazzam Ejaz from National University Islamabad, Pro-Vice Chancellor Najma Najam from International University Lahore, Rector Tahira Aziz Mughal from Imperial College of Business Studies Lahore, and P&D Finance Advisor Mazhar Saeed.
Over 5,000 obscene videos
The shocking scandal of more than 5000 inappropriate videos at Islamia University has caused great distress in Bahawalpur.
As per reports, the authorities are attempting to suppress the video controversy, while the report has been presented to the caretaker chief minister of Punjab. Three officials, including the university’s finance director, Dr. Abuzar, Chief Security Officer Syed Ejaz Shah, and the transport officer Altaf, have been apprehended. However, the university administration has labeled the arrests as a conspiracy against the institution.
The report sent to the caretaker chief minister revealed that numerous student videos and eight grams of Ice drug were found in Ejaz Shah’s possession.
On the other hand, DPO Abbas Shah refuted the allegations against Islamia University. He stated that 113 drug-addicted students were identified in the university, and there is no bias against any institution.
The DPO further asserted that the police’s main target is drug dealers, not universities, and they will work to eradicate drug addiction in educational institutes.
During a session, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Education discussed the Islamia University Bahawalpur scandal. Committee members urged to summon the Regional Police Officer instead of the DPO.
The new vice chancellor of the university attended the session online, and the NA committee had summoned university officials regarding the scandal.
