The scheduled national elections for this year might experience a postponement due to the extended time required to finish the census and establish fresh constituency borders.
ECP Commits to Mid-February Elections Amid Delay Concerns
In light of the worries expressed by multiple factions, Pakistan’s Election Commission (ECP) guaranteed the potential for holding the elections by the middle of February. They also suggested the chance of an earlier date if the delimitation process concludes swiftly.
Recently, the ANP (Awami National Party) appealed to an electoral oversight body to organize the election within a span of 90 days. They also requested a specific election date and timetable.
After the gathering, ECP guaranteed the party centered in KP about elections in the middle of February, restating their dedication to expedite the delimitation procedure for quicker elections.
In the meantime, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) also engaged with senior officials from the Election Commission to talk about the date and timetable of the election.

While political organizations, advocates, and community representatives criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan’s choice to postpone elections past the constitutional 90-day threshold, the electoral body upheld its decision.
In a communication, Pakistan’s Election Commission (ECP) indicated that a renewed demarcation of electoral areas was a constitutional necessity for conducting polls, asserting that lacking revised voter registries, there won’t be genuine representation.
The ECP emphasized that precise portrayal of voters, contenders, and political factions stands as the foundational tenet of a constitutional democracy, and the process is anticipated to conclude by December 14, slightly more than a month after the cutoff for organizing general elections.
The ECP also asserted that due to the official publication of the population census, significant shifts in the populace within provinces and districts at the constituency level have taken place.
