Shehbaz Announces Nawaz Sharif’s Arrival
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that his older sibling and former premier Nawaz Sharif was scheduled to come back to Pakistan in the following month. Upon arrival, Nawaz is anticipated to confront the unresolved court cases and lead his party’s efforts for the upcoming general elections.
Shehbaz Announces Nawaz Sharif’s Arrival-Following his conviction in Al-Azizia Mills and Avenfield corruption lawsuits in 2018, Nawaz has been residing in self-imposed exile in London since November 2019. He had been serving a seven-year incarceration at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail related to the Al-Azizia Mills case before being granted permission to travel to London in 2019 on grounds of “medical reasons.”
During an interview with a private news network, Shehbaz mentioned his intention to journey to London to meet his older sibling Nawaz as soon as the interim government assumes control in the nation. He reiterated that if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) triumphs in the forthcoming election, Nawaz, his older sibling, would hold the position of prime minister for the fourth term. The election is scheduled to occur later this year.
Shehbaz Announces Nawaz Sharif’s Arrival-His announcement coincided with the commencement of the process to establish the interim administration, marked by the dissolution of the National Assembly on Wednesday, three days ahead of the designated period. “Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan next month, addressing legal matters and leading the electoral effort,” the current prime minister remarked, refraining from specifying Nawaz’s exact return date.
In 2017, Nawaz Sharif resigned as prime minister after the Supreme Court invalidated his position for life due to asset concealment. His appeals against the verdict remain pending in the judicial system.
