Srinagar – A total closure is being witnessed today in the Indian-controlled region of Kashmir to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, a prominent Kashmiri youth leader, and his two companions. They were martyred by Indian forces in 2016.

The sacrifice of a Kashmiri champion on July 8, 2016, sparked extensive demonstrations in the contested valley, resulting in a subsequent surge of aggression by Indian occupying forces in the area.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has issued a strike call to honor Burhan Wani and other brave individuals of the Kashmir liberation struggle.
People from both sides of the border in Kashmir will organize protest rallies, aiming to raise global awareness regarding the extensive human rights abuses conducted by Indian forces in the occupied region.
In a declaration, a spokesperson for Hurriyat urged the residents of the occupied region to partake in a full-scale shutdown on Saturday.

The aim is to send a powerful message to the global community, specifically the United Nations, that the people of Kashmir are making extraordinary sacrifices in their pursuit of the right to self-determination, as recognized by multiple UN resolutions.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) declared that July 8 will be observed as “Youm-e-Tajdeed-e-Ahad” to reaffirm the determination of the Kashmiri people in fulfilling the objectives set forth by their fallen heroes, regardless of the sacrifices required.

Martyr Burhan Wani accomplished the significant privilege of instilling fresh energy and greater enthusiasm among the young people of Kashmir, ensuring the continuity of the 73-year-old Kashmiri freedom movement.
He encouraged Kashmiri youth to participate in the struggle for freedom through social media, while also informing the international community about the exceptional significance of the indigenous Kashmiri fight for liberation from Indian dominance.
