Gilgit-Baltistan: Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan has set up a high-level committee in the region to shape the legal system and regulate media affairs.
Headed by Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Sohail Abbas, the eight-member committee includes the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, media representatives, Secretary of Finance and Information.

According to the notification, the committee will review the framework of various provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir To formulate a legal framework system to regulate electronic, print, and social/digital media in G-B.

The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of recommending suitable options for the welfare of journalists as per the concessions given by the provincial governments.
The GB Committee will review the existing financial, structural, and capacity-building capacity of journalists and propose a work plan with a comprehensive approach for the improvement and development of journalists.
The notification states that the committee will prepare actionable proposals or action plans with recommendations based on a comparative study approach for policy guidelines and regulations of the provinces and AJK.
“The committee will provide the necessary information to the Chief Minister’s office within two weeks which can be presented to the G-B Cabinet for a decision in the next meeting,” he added.
