Changing oneself is tough, but one habit played a big part in transforming Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. This habit not only led him beyond the world of computers and software but also into international philanthropy.
Bill Gates’ transformative habit for success
Recently, 68-year-old Bill Gates shared that “from ages 18 to 40, I was completely devoted to my work, and Microsoft meant everything to me.” He considers himself lucky that others have taken over Microsoft, allowing him the chance to read and learn about global medical issues.
Bill Gates, one of the richest people globally, enjoys learning, and this interest played a role in transforming his career.

In 1997, Bill Gates and his then-wife Melinda Gates came across an article highlighting that millions of children worldwide die each year from easily treatable diseases.
After leaving his role as Microsoft’s chief executive in 2000, he took the chance to delve deeper into studies. This led him to establish the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to address global medical challenges.
He focused on this organization, and his habit of studying helped him understand medical issues and find areas where he could invest to assist people.
In a 2017 interview, he mentioned that reading sparked his curiosity about the world and played a role in advancing his career and the Gates Foundation. Starting from 2000, his foundation has invested $53.8 billion to tackle medical issues like AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
