The captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Babar Azam, has stepped down from leading in all three formats.
Despite PCB’s proposal to captain solely the Test team, Babar Azam declined.
Babar Azam Resigns as Captain in All Formats
In a social media statement, Babar Azam declared his resignation from captaincy across all formats.
He expressed that achieving the top position in white-ball cricket was the outcome of the collective effort of all players. Although relinquishing leadership was a tough choice, he emphasized that now is the appropriate moment to step down from the captaincy.
Babar Azam expressed his commitment to delivering consistent performances across all three formats. He pledged to lend his support to the incoming captain, drawing on his wealth of experience. Babar extended gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting him with this new responsibility.
It’s worth noting that Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, held discussions with Babar Azam in Lahore today.
Sources indicate that during the meeting, Babar Azam was advised to appoint a new captain for white-ball cricket. However, the PCB proposed that he should retain the captaincy for the Test team.
Insiders mentioned that Babar Azam declined the leadership role in all three formats, turning down the PCB’s proposal.

As per reports, Babar Azam exited the gathering following his refusal to lead in all three formats.
Nevertheless, he subsequently declared his decision to step down from the captaincy in all three formats through a statement on social media.
