Asia Cup ‘hybrid model’ clears path for Pakistan’s World Cup participation. In a momentous development, Pakistan has been given the green light to participate in the forthcoming 50-overs World Cup set to be held in India during the months of October and November. This decision opens the doors for Pakistan’s inclusion in the prestigious tournament, which seemed uncertain due to the strained political relations between Pakistan and India.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has outlined the tournament’s unique format, which will be a hybrid model. According to the ACC’s official statement, four matches will be held in Pakistan, while the remaining nine matches will take place in the serene cricketing grounds of Sri Lanka. This arrangement ensures that the tournament is conducted smoothly while addressing the concerns regarding bilateral matches between India and Pakistan.

India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan due to the prevailing political tensions has been a significant hurdle in organizing matches between the two neighboring nations. Najam Sethi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), expressed his gratitude towards the ACC for accepting what he considers “the most optimal solution” to overcome this crisis. Sethi emphasized that the PCB will retain its role as the event host, organizing matches in Pakistan, while Sri Lanka serves as the neutral venue. This arrangement became necessary due to the Indian cricket team’s inability to travel to Pakistan. Sethi’s statement also acknowledged the disappointment felt by passionate Pakistani fans, who had eagerly awaited the opportunity to witness the Indian cricket team play on Pakistani soil for the first time in 15 years. Nevertheless, Sethi understood and respected the position of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
It is important to note that both the PCB and the BCCI face bureaucratic procedures and require government approvals and clearances before crossing borders. This common requirement further highlights the complexities involved in organizing such high-profile cricket events.
The eagerly anticipated six-team tournament will culminate in an enthralling final scheduled for September 17th, where the best of the best will compete for the ultimate glory on the cricket field. Cricket enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await this thrilling spectacle, showcasing the talent and skills of the participating teams.
