India has secured a spot in the Asia Cup 2023 final, having triumphed over Sri Lanka by a margin of 41 runs during their second Super 4s match at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Asia Cup 2023 Points Table After India Win
Accumulating a total of four points and boasting a run rate of +2.690, the Indian squad currently holds the leading position in the points table. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka finds itself in second place with two points and a run rate of -0.200.
Pakistan holds the third position, securing victories solely against Bangladesh, but faced a crushing 228-run loss to India in their second Super 4s match.
Opting to bat first, India set a target of 214 runs on the spin-friendly pitch, courtesy of another resilient half-century from their captain, Rohit Sharma.
The 20-year-old spinner, Dunith Wellalage, shone as a standout player for Sri Lanka, capturing five wickets and giving away 40 runs. Meanwhile, the occasional spinner, Charith Asalanka, claimed four wickets.
In retaliation, the host team stood at 99 for six before Dunith Wellalage and Dhananjaya de Silva demonstrated some resilience in the midst, accumulating 63 runs in their partnership.
