Former cricket stars Wasim Akram and Gautam Gambhir, known for their achievements in Pakistan and India, have suggested to Babar Azam that he should step down from leading his team in the Pakistan Super League to improve his game.
Advised Babar to quit PSL
During a recent talk with a local sports platform, Wasim Akram advised Babar Azam, emphasizing that as a top player, he should concentrate on playing, scoring runs, and enjoying the sport.
He shared, ‘A few years ago, I suggested to Babar Azam not to captain in league cricket. Being a prominent player, take your earnings, play the game, score runs, go home, and then prepare for the next event.’
Wasim Akram conveyed to Babar, ‘Leading Pakistan is fine, but captaining in league cricket adds unnecessary stress for no good reason.’
Ex-Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir agreed with Wasim Akram and mentioned, ‘I had foretold that Babar Azam would score the most runs before the World Cup, but the stress of leadership also impacted his performance.’

He added, ‘Now that he’s not the captain anymore, Babar will showcase his best skills. Fans will witness a new side of Babar Azam on the field, unlike anything seen before.’
Gautam Gambhir said he won’t gain anything by winning the PSL. Instead, if he focuses on his batting, he could be recognized as the best batsman in Pakistan’s history. He aims to showcase his cricket skills for the next 10 years.
After the World Cup ended, on November 15, Babar Azam declared that he is stepping down as the leader of the Pakistan cricket team in the three-way format.
