Five suspects involved in the May 9 violence, who were recently granted bail by the Supreme Court, have been re-arrested under Section 16 MPO (Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960).

After the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi issued 16 MPOs, the accused were arrested soon after their release. The accused were released from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi last night after submitting bail bonds.
Five accused – Owais, Saifullah, Nasrullah, Kamran and Waqas – were booked in the May 9 torture case at New Two police station.
A number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists and others were arrested after nationwide protests erupted following the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Last week, a three-member bench comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Musrat Hilali granted bail to the five accused in the May 9 torture case.
Justice Mandukhel remarked during the hearing that the concerned authorities are not arresting the “real terrorists” but are after those who take out political rallies.

The apex court approved the bail in exchange for surety bonds of Rs50,000 each. It also directed the trial court to give a verdict without getting influenced.
